It may seem a bit late to be talking about New Year’s resolutions but it shouldn’t be. So often we seem to forget about them by the end of the first week of January. When I sat down on the 1st and looked at my resolutions, I found my 2011 resolutions nearby. Hadn’t looked at them in almost 12 months.
Resolutions are interesting things. Sometimes we tell ourselves we’re going to change something. I am not great at remembering birthdays. Every year I resolve to pay better attention to them and every year I struggle to deal with more than just 5-6 close family and friends.
This year I took a different tack. I decided to make monthly resolutions- e.g., I will play golf once a month. Somehow that seems more manageable than I will play 12 times. But when we look at our resolutions, we see different ways we wish to improve ourselves. Some may be relationship or fitness related, and others work or hobby related. How many are about what we will give back? What are we going to contribute to the world? Money? Time? Hope? There are people in need of all things and we should strive to recognise how we can contribute to others in the moment. Not just once a year.
In the moment, we choose to say thank you, we choose to recycle, we choose to smile. It is the moment that saves us, and saves others around us, from a darker future. And what we find in that moment, is a slightly different path. A path that brings people together. In that moment, we embark on a new adventure with new possibilities. Anything becomes possible and that is truly a new year worth celebrating.

Loved the video, you just gave me an idea myself (I have been wannitg to do more video on my blog as well!).My three words are terribly cliche, but they are health, wealth and happiness.I have two chronic diseases which brought me home from my well-paying teaching career (12 years!!) and have put my childbearing on a seemingly endless hiatus. (HEALTH)Without my job and waiting for disability benefits approval, I have 0 income. I been living off of my savings which are nearly gone. (WEALTH)My number one goal every morning, every minute of every day is to stay positive, no matter what. So far, with everything I’ve been through I’ve been sticking to it, but I worry more difficulty is ahead. (HAPPINESS)And that’s how a cliche becomes more than a cliche I couldn’t think of a better 3 words for 2012!Nicole Rivera recently posted..
