The world would be a better place if fear played a more productive role in our lives. So often fear leads us to choose to not do things. Fear of the dark, the unknown, the consequences. Sometimes we don’t even realise it is guiding us. We just make the safer choice. For me, it’s a fear of getting it wrong. It’s unreasonable. I know we all get it wrong occasionally but that doesn’t make it go away.

So this weekend, in an effort to temper my fear, I tried cooking some new things. It’s funny how daunting that can be. And after successfully making chicken wings last night and caramel glazed plums, I managed to poach eggs this morning for the first time and finish the day with a kale and feta polenta lasagna.  How’s that for adventurous? Now seasoned cooks (including most likely my mother) don’t understand why I get nervous. And they are right. It is unreasonable.

There is nothing to be afraid of. It’s just something new. So this week is about continuing to try something new.. Whether it’s something mentioned in one of the videos (opening the door for a stranger perhaps?) or just something that takes you out of your comfort zone. Give it a go. It may feel like you a pushing yourself, but there’s a good chance everyone thinks you’ve done it before. That’s one of the great thing about this world. We really only doubt ourselves. Everyone else always assume you can do it.

Let me know how it goes.
